Look for work on your own

You can search for openings and follow official instructions without hiring a representative.

Start here

  1. Go to Job Bank for foreign candidates.
  2. Look for jobs open to people who are currently outside Canada.
  3. Review pay, province, experience requirements, and how to apply.
  4. Confirm whether the employer uses an LMIA or an LMIA-exempt pathway.
  5. Apply by following the instructions in the posting.
  6. If you receive a valid offer, continue with the appropriate work-permit process.

Paths worth understanding

LMIA + employer-specific work permit

The employer supports a specific hire, and your work permit is usually tied to that job.

Working without an LMIA

Some people may qualify for an LMIA exemption through agreements, programs, or specific circumstances.

Mobilité francophone

If you speak French and have an eligible job offer outside Quebec, Mobilité francophone may provide an LMIA-exempt path.
